1st 5k Race !!!

Well, I did it !  I ran AND finished my FIRST 5k race!!!  It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.  I was a little nervous.  I don't have a running partner, which I think all the other runners had.  I didn't "run" as much of it as I would have liked, but I haven't been training for over a month.  My goal was to finish in 45 minutes.  My finish time was 46:17.45!!  Not too far off from my goal.  My son placed 2nd in his age group and got a medal!

Human Race 10k

I am happy to announce that I finished the 10k !  I didn't do as well as I wanted, but considering I took off a month or soo (laziness I think!) I guess I should be happy I finished !!

 Mood : good

Weather: Nice and sunny ... 64 degrees

Notes:  my pants kept falling down while I was running (I got a new pair and they are low on the waist)  I also kept wishing I would run more and walk less with all the skinny runners zooming past me !  But all in all it was nice to have different scenery than my wall when I am on my treadmill !!

Injury Day 3 Workout

ran 2.03 mi on 9/22/2009 at 7:35 PM with a pace of 14'24"/mi

Treadmill -- not too bad -- but my knees are a little sore, I didn't get to do the yoga after I had to go pick up the son from Band practice!

I don't like running soo late.... I would rather run in the morning and have my evenings to watch TV or read.

Injury Day 2 workout

ran 1.35 mi on 9/21/2009 at 11:18 AM with a pace of 16'40"/mi

Today I did my first part on the treadmill with an incline of 5 ... hoping to help strengthen the muscles in my knees and legs.  The last little bit I was able to run without my knees hurting as bad as they did yesterday.... I guess I have to go little at a time.....

Injury day 1 workout

Me and the kids went and played a little Tennis... well, my knees hurt soo bad that all I did was hit the balls that came to me.. :)  Then we went to walk around the track... I tried to run a little at a slow pace, but couldn't do it... I was able to walk a mile ... I guess it's a start... I iced my knee when we got home and took some Motrin.  This morning it feels much better... thinking about a little cross training ...swimming!!

ran 1.09 mi on 9/20/2009 at 5:30 PM with a pace of 17'07"/mi

Injury.. :(

After yesterday's run I was in soo much pain!  My knees were really hurting.. both of them .. and in the same place !!!  I did some research and asked around and it appears to be tendinitis  While I was looking for information on it, I realized a BIG mistake I made.  When I started running, I started running!!  I didn't slow myself into it.  I mean, I did walk a few days... but then right into running.  I actually got upset when I was reading that I would need to rest.  I NEVER thought I would be someone who would be upset that I couldn't run... I think it is becoming an addiction ... a good one at least!!
Here is my tentative plan... I am going to go to the DR and make sure that is what it is. I am going to have today be my OFF day.. (why am I sad about this).  I am going to ice my knees and take Motrin... and pray I can start running before I have too many rest days.. cause I am afraid I will fall back into my no exercise rut.

New Training plan

After feeling like my running routine has ADD (I can say that cause I really have ADD and know what it is like!!) I decided to do some research online to look for a good training plan.  I think alot of my issues are I am trying to hard to be like my friends who run 5+ miles a day !!  I want to run, but I am afraid if I start too fast and strong with this transition I will hurt myself.  Sooo, I found this awesome site Cool Running It has alot of great information.  I decided that Couch to 5k plan would be best for me. However, I plan to do my own adjusting cause I also like this plan Beginner 5k... I want to run more than 3 days a week (as the couch to 5k plans).  I have been taking only 1 day off, the beginner 5k plans for 2 days off... hmm I will have to tweak my plan a bit.
Today is Monday.. my plan is to do workout 1, week 1... I will see how far I go... I want to do at least 2 miles.  I also think I will do a little on Wii Fit today. (I am feeling motivated today, unlike yesterday.)
Here is the Couch to 5k plan from the site:

Treadmill ...

I forgot to stretch .. and I think I pulled something in my calf ... It is throbbing ... I think I will take a cold bath.... :(

I didn't feel like running today, which is why I didn't run until 7pm !  It has been raining and yuck all day here, and I just felt like laying on the couch and watching TV all day !!!

I at least ran a mile... not the greatest mile, but it was something !!

What I learned....

from my run today...
  • I need new shoes!
  • I need new headphones, mine fall out of my ears ... lol
  • I should turn my treadmill around so I can see the TV, the white wall is really boring !
  • Watching my dog sleep on my bed doesn't help me run any faster
  • My running is like my ADD.. I need a trainer !
  • Maybe I should get a better sports bra and I wouldn't have a black eye .. LOL
  • My middle child can run circles around me.. he ran 7 miles last night .. i barley get to 3 miles !
  • I may have been insane when I signed up for the 10k  :)

Training Day 8

ran 3.12 mi on 9/11/2009 at 7:21 AM with a pace of 15'27"/mi Nike +

Thursday, September 10, 2009

Ummm ...

I never thought I would buy this magazine .. and actually be reading it ...

Training Day 7

ran 2.01 mi on 9/10/2009 at 12:07 PM with a pace of 14'40"/mi Nike +

Treadmill

5 min. walking warmup... 10 sec running, 50 sec walking-10 sec running, 50 sec walking... repeated until 2 miles complete

Treadmill vs Road running

A friend asked me why I prefer running on the treadmill opposed to running on the road... well, here are my reasons...
  • treadmill is in the AC -- it is HOT here in Texas
  • I don't have to get as much together to go run ... I don't have to get the camelback, hat, etc.
  • I can wear whatever I want (ie. sports bra and bike shorts)
  • I keep pace better
  • I don't have to pay attention to cars, dogs or whatever else is around me.
  • I could watch TV if I want to.. watch some of the shows I have DVR'd. (aka. multitasking)
  • Did I already mention ... it is not as HOT
The only reasons I can find to run outside are....
  • I seem to run farther .. I guess you always have to get back home ..lol
  • Sometimes it is nice to see something other than a white wall

Training Day 7

ran 2.72 mi on 9/9/2009 at 9:16 AM with a pace of 15'51"/mi Nike +

Today run I ventured outside and ran in my neighborhood.  It was HOT outside!!  I can't wait till Fall gets here !!

When I got up this morning, I really didn't expect I would run today.  I was just feeling blah !  Then when I decided to do it outside .. well, I had to find the Camelback, then my hat.. oh and my shades ! That alone would have given me a great excuse to not go.. but I did it anyway!!  I am really proud of myself!!!

Here is a picture from my run .. you can't really see it, but there are cows :)

Nike +

I have never been a runner, always avoiding running!!  I am very out of shape and realizing I need to be healthier.  I could choose to be a bike rider, or something like that, but NO, I choose to run.  Part of the reason I chose running over biking was Nike +.  I like to see my progress and have something to keep my motivated!!
Nike + appealed to my "techie" side and the website was great.  With the Nike + I am able to "keep myself honest" cause it keeps track of my distance and time.. which is then uploaded to the Nike + site.  On the site I can join challenges, which help me stay motivated!  Also, with the new site, I can "friend" someone and they can see your runs and you can see theirs.
My only downside of it was I didn't have Nike + shoes, I normally wear New Balance.  But... there was a solution, which I found on Amazon...a pouch

Training Day 6

Bike ride - 3 miles

Today it took alot of motivation to get on the treadmill !! We had a bbq and I ate way too much and didn't want to run at all !!! But... I got on the treadmill and did it !! ( I am patting myself on the back) I normally listen to an audiobook when I run, but today I decided to listen to a 10k training thing I downloaded on iTunes. I did alot better, felt like I got a good workout!

After I did my 2 miles ( wanted to do 4 but just couldn't do it) Kaleb wanted me to go run with him ... I told him I would ride my bike ..cause I couldn't keep up with him ! Soo, I rode my bike .. actually me, Rik and Hayley rode our bikes. We did 3 miles ! I am going to be soooo sore tomorrow.
